Yup there is definitely a thin line between promotion and spamming. The same goes with regular old mail, most of the times it’s just junk sometimes it’s something you want to hear about.

Personally if someone is just contributing one liners or BS posts my forum, I trash the posts. I see many forums with a post count limit to get sig links enabled. It’s a bad idea, I’ve said it from day one. “Promoters” aka spammers will just post drivel until they reach the threshold. It should be a time limit after say 30 days if you’re still around you may have your precious sig links.

On the other hand, a sig link is a reward for posting good information and contributing to a forum.. I don’t think that feature should just be given away.
