Why Close Lufkin Pool?

So the talk is now that the Village is going to close Lufkin Pool in order to help overcome the budget shortfall for 2009-2010.

I have a one word answer. Don’t.

We need to be forward thinking here. In this economy people are not going to be going on vacation and the local kids will need our pools this summer as a source of recreation.

The pool should stay open as long as the police department is not compromised. The village streets also need repair. If you want the Village to continue to grow it needs to be a safe community and well groomed. No one will want to bring business into Villa Park if it is not safe and kept up. If the North side pool is closed the citizens on the North side of town have the option of using the new pool in Lombard.

There is so little to offer the residents of VP in terms of recreation. I would be willing to pay more for my pool pass if needed. We gave Target and Walmart tax breaks for building here, it’s the residents who then have to flip the bill. At least give us something in return, like a nice pool on the South & North sides.

Back in the 50’s, Lufkin was a private pool for the sub-division. It was willed to the Village to always be used as a public pool…if they don’t use it, it will just sit as an eyesore.
